I no longer plan to purchase one.
I wouldn't really want my information being sold to whomever offers Zuckerburg the most cash for it. Especially now that it could scan my eyes (biometric data), my face, and who knows what else?
It's also sad to see Valkyrie basically die in the womb thanks to this. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

Unfortunately for me though, what I've read in the media is enough to make me pause on buying the Oculus when it's released.
I'm not going to write it off and assume that the sky will fall in because the company is owned by Facebook, but I think I'll wait and see for a while.
They've recently admitted (after being caught) that they sell both personal identity and account information.
The only reason I even have mine anymore is because my wife's relatives would get butthurt if I deleted it, thinking it a slight. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

No, they did it to monetize it.
Which will result in killing it. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

Which will result in killing it. Every commercial product is monetized or it goes broke. This is the argument socialists have perpetuated for nearly a century. That the incentive of the business man is to ruin his business, not to grow and profit from it. FB getting behind Oculus is going to open all sorts of doors for this technology which weren't in reach 3 days ago.
And closed a whole bunch of them, because a great deal of the potential customer base that Oculus Rift previous appealed to, absolutely despises Facebook in general, and Zuckerburg in particular.
Myself, as an example. I hate Facebook. I hate their dishonesty, I hate their utter determination to sell out as hard and as quickly as possible, and I hate the entire concept of putting your life in a fishbowl in exchange for fake internet points from other morons who put their own lives in fishbowls.
Instead I will buy the Playstation version, after this revelation came out. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

I wouldn't really expect them to say anything else. I honestly think they got lucky about Valkyrie being the flagship program for Oculus, and they can't back out now. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

They should just cut their losses, or migrate across to another VR system. There's another independent one floating about or Sony's one which will undoubtedly be pretty stable. When are people going to learn that Facebook doesn't attract gamers. It attract's middle aged women and children who want to build farms, cafes and breed animals on their phones. The type of person that's going to pay hundreds of dollars for a VR headset to play space dogfighting games is not a great lover of Facebook.
Oh, believe me, I agree.
I predict either an unwillingness to back out, or an inability to do so. Can't change the POS code, and all that. It's entirely possible that they literally are in too deep at this point. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

You should remind your wife that right now Facebook sells female profile pics to adult dating sites, you know the sites that tell you that there's currently 20 women desperate for sex in your area whilst showing the fb pics. click here to join up.
That one could have been a PM, if you ask me. But my sister in law has far more to worry about than my wife, who is quite demure.
Nonetheless, thanks. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

How long you play game X then take it off because it is giving you a headache? Sure if you surf the web on it then facebook might try to data mine but pretty much everyone is already doing that.
As everyone is starting to talk about VR as the future (again) could it be that Zuckerberg is just buying up a hot company to get the tech to try and push the underlying tech.
So are people overreacting a little?
Remember when Facebook bought Instagram..... They changed the terms&agreement to state that Facebook OWN all your pictures and have the right to SELL them and use them for advertising or anything they want. Only after a huge backlash from the users did they offer the BS excuse that it was an accidental change that didnt really mean what it said. I was so excited about Occulus, but now... I'm really not so sure. Yes I realise there is a risk but until we see any changes in Occulus Rift either in terms of the product or services around it then perhaps we are overreacting a bit
Why risk it at all, when a competing product has no such risks associated with it? Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á
